  • GIS Day is an annual worldwide celebration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. GIS Day celebrations happen this year on Wednesday, November 19, 2014.
  • We are celebrating GIS Day 2014 with guest speakers from the City of Saskatoon on Wednesday November 19, 12-4 p.m. in the Room 260, Arts Building.

  • 12-1 pm: Welcome, greet, posters, free GIS day gifts and refreshments
  • 1-2 pm: Online mapping introduction with guest speakers from the City of Saskatoon
  • 2-3 pm: MapTime workshop with guest speakers from the City of Saskatoon
  • 3-4 pm: SSRL introduction and open House

label Workshop summary

The workshop is tailored to beginners who would like to learn about online mapping tools and how to make and edit online maps. The first half of the workshop will show all the online mapping tools currently available on the web that delegates can use to enhance their own projects and presentations. OpenStreetMaps will be featured in the introduction and a demonstration of how to add and edit features will be provided. The second half of the workshop, each delegate will be asked to log-in to their computer station with their OpenStreetMap account (OpenStreetMap accounts are free). All participants will have the opportunity to enhance Saskatoon's OpenStreetMap information.

label Show your work

Space is available for researchers to display posters and publications. The lab also has computers for displaying GIS work. You are very welcome to show your GIS related work (e.g., posters, presentations) in the lab.

If you plan on attending our GIS Day event please let us know. Registration is optional for attendees, but it helps us anticipate how many people to expect. There is no charge for the event but space for the workshop and posters may be limited so please RSVP to winston.zeng@usask.ca to reserve your spot.
